Hoewel hij pas ’s middags verwacht werd, was oud-judoka Anton Geesink vrijdagochtend vroeg al op Sportcentrum Kardinge om het Nederlandse Judoteam aan te moedigen. De hele dag blijft Geesink aan de rand van de mat in Kardinge. Medailles zal hij niet uitreiken. “Ik kom puur voor de sporters”, aldus Geesink. Achtentwintig jaar geleden al pleitte hij voor de integratie van sporters met een verstandelijke handicap bij judo. “Judo is een prima sport, die zeker niet te zwaar is”, zegt de oud-judoka.
