De staatssecretaris heeft toegezegd extra geld uit te trekken om de sportfaciliteiten voor mensen met een verstandelijke of lichamelijke handicap te verbeteren. Daarnaast is ze van mening dat “gehandicapten gewoon bij de sportvereniging terecht moeten kunnen”, om op die manier de afstand tussen sporters met en sporters zonder een handicap te verkleinen.
MARGO VLIEGENTHART OPENS THE CONGRESS AT THE AZG
Minister Margo Vliegenthart opened the AZG conference on Monday morning to a full audience of one hundred and thirty people. The theme of the two-day congress is Sport, Health and Welfare of people with a mental handicap. “I believe that too few people are gaining the benefits of sports. They must be given every opportunity to take part in sporting activities”, said by Viegenthart. The minister promised to stretch the funding so that the sport facilities for the mentally handicapped can be improved. She is also of the opinion that “everyone should be able to join and take part in sports clubs, regardless of ability” to minimize the gap between athletes with, and athletes without a handicap.
