De Turkse zakenman die Shriver vergezelt, is lid van het Comité van Leiderschap en sponsor van SOI. Hij heeft in Turkije twee centra voor mensen met een verstandelijke handicap opgezet. Timothy Shriver vindt het erg belangrijk dat zakenmensen zich persoonlijk inzetten voor sport en opleiding voor mensen met een verstandelijke handicap. “Te vaak draait alleen de overheid ervoor op”, is Shriver van mening.Al snel brengt Shriver het gesprek weer terug op sport. Hij legt aan de Turkse pers uit wat divisionering precies inhoudt en moedigt ondertussen een atlete uit Luxemburg aan, die hij erg talentvol vindt. Helaas kan hij niet alle sporters goed zien, door de vele fotografen die zich in zijn buurt verzameld hebben. Shriver is eigenlijk van mening dat de pers zich op de sporters zou moeten richten, maar hij kan hen dat natuurlijk niet opdragen. There is nothing that can go wrong anymore for the ten year old Berk Canbulat from Turkey. Timothy Shriver, president and CEO, found his first routine “very good”. Shriver and the Turkish businessman Sabanci, both got on their knees to personally encourage the athlete. He then went back to the stands, to give room for the divisioning to start, and so he could have a clear view of all the different disciplines taking place in the Evenementenhal. “I see skill and joy, ability and happiness” and he continued “no shame, sadness or pity”.The Turkish businessman accompanying Shriver is a member of the Committee of Leadership and sponsor of the Special Olympics Inc. He has founded two centers for mentally handicapped people in Turkey. Timothy Shriver believes that it is very important for business people to get personally involved in sports and education for the mentally handicapped. “Too often it is only the government that gets involved”, says Shriver.
Soon, he takes the conversation back to sport. He explained to the Turkish press what ‘divisioning’ actually is. Meanwhile he cheers an athlete from Luxemburg who he find very “talented”. Unfortunately, he can not get a clear view of all the sportsmen because of the many photographers gathered around him.
